Now isn't this wonderful!!! I'm hoping this will inspire others to send pictures. Actually I am going to add a link to a You Tube video of Taylor, Kathy and Chas' oldest son. As you watch the video, Taylor is the scorer at the end of the clip.

Brianna's dance

Brianna, send us pictures and a letter of how things went for this concert. I wish we could have been there! I'm sure you were exquisite.

My Sweetheart - A letter from Frank to Helen

Walkermine, California Sept 14, 1935 My Sweetheart, Here comes another of my scribbling masterpieces. I sure wish I could write letters, but it just don't seem to be in me. I am still working and I like my job fine. Let's hope I can keep this one. I am working for a real nice fellow. He seems to like me. So maybe I will get along alright this time. I am supposed to be working in the mine, but I only worked in there one night. The boss has had me outside on the dump. The moon sure is pretty, (and lonely). Every time I look at it I can see you, but I can't touch you. I have three of your pictures before me now. Sure a damn cute kid. We got our bags from Salt Lake yesterday. They have been down at Spring Garden for two weeks. ( a little town 9 miles from here) They didn't have sense enough to send them up to us. I was sure getting worried because your big picture was in my suitcase. But I have it now so everything is alright. Why did you send me those pictures of myself. Did you want me to burn them up or send them back. You know that is one of the first signs you are beginning to weaken when you start giving pictures back. I hope all the fellows around here are not right. They said if I didn't get back to you I would lose you. Well I am hoping and praying that I don't, because you mean everything to me. Write often and be careful. God Bless You and keep you (for me). I'll always love you, Charlie (I guess he sometimes went by his first name) Where should I write your letters to.

Future Postings

It is difficult to know what to put on this site. As you can tell I don't have much of a plan. Whatever appeals to me at the moment I guess is my modus operandi. Do any of you have a blog, besides Juli that I could link to? I will keep posting, and hope that some or all of you are interested in what piques my interest on the day I have time to post.

More History

Frank Taylor graduated from Tintic High School the 20th of May 1932. I'm going to try and attach a copy of his invitation and diploma. The hobo trip journal and postcards were written in 1931 the summer before his senior year. So he graduated and then he and Jake went on another trip. I only have one postcard saved from that trip. Salt Lake City, Utah May 26, 1931 (just a few days after graduation) Dear Helen, Well, I haven't spent your dime yet and we are still going strong. We didn't eat breakfast this morning but I thought of you anyway. We have eaten once today but we are going in quest of more very shortly. Well tell e verybody hello for me and two for yourself. I guess we won't be home for about a month. Goodby--Jake and Frank The two hobos must have done it again the next summer, because there is a card from Denver dated July 7, 1933 (a day before Frank's 19th birthday) Dear Helen, I'm just taking this opportunity to say hello and wonder if you're still O.K. I hope you're still the same as you was when I saw you last. (whenever that was) We're over here in a nice warm spot in Colorado and it's raining like nobody's business. We starting home tonight so I may be seeing you next week sometime. Well I'll say goodby until later. Love, Jake

Hall Family Reunion

I tried to get Tom and Mary K. to stay in Laguna Beach, but they didn't. Perhaps they sensed that the Hall Family would descend upon them. We did spend 3 wonderful days at the beach in June. All the family were there except Jon's son Tyler and Tyler's little son Michael. It was fun, exciting, hot, exhausting, terrific, fantastic!

Megan's Wedding

How could almost a year have passed so quickly?

Here are some pictures Megan sent to me. I'm still hoping that others will get the message and send pictures. It would be so neat to post pictures of each family of descendants!

Brave or crazy kid!

I thought you might enjoy a journal entry of Frank for a hobo trip he, Jake Weirman, and a friend named Swede took the summer before their senior year in high school. This is from a little notebook found among Helen's papers after her death. The year is 1931. "Friday May 29th we left home at 1l'clock. We walked to the top of the Hormansville slant and got a ride to Santaquin. We walked from Santiquin almost to Mona, there we got a ride in a truck and rode clear to Moroni. We walked from Moroni to Mt. Pleasant, ate supper and went to bed. We were so tired we couldn't turn over. But Jake and Swede weren't. They went to the dance. I went to bed and ended a perfectly good day. Saturday May 30th. We arose and ate breakfast. We weeded a woman's garden to pay for our breakfast. We lay around all day waiting for a freight train to come in. We ate another meal and still waited for a freight train that never came in. While we were waiting some girls came along and wanted us to take them to Moroni to the dance so we took off our overhalls and went. We came back and went to bed. Sunday May 31st. We arose about 11 o'clock, ate breakfast and went down to wait for the train. While we were waiting some little girls came along. They had a "ukeley" and we fixed it for them. Then we were invited to dinner and we ate some more. Then to our astonishment we heard the freight whistle so we scampered down to the depot and the ungrateful thing went right through. We were disgusted with freights so we took to the highway again and caught a ride to Ephraim and from Ephraim to Manti. We walked from Manti to Sterling about 20 miles. We got a ride from Sterling to Centerfield. We looked for a bed and found a pretty good haystack. We crawled in and covered hay over us. But it was cold no matter how much hay we put over us there would be a draft from somewhere. Jake and I got up about 2 o'clock and made a fire. That was much better. At dawn we arose for a new day. Monday June 1st. We arose at dawn and started on the highway. The first ditch we came to we all proceeded to wash our face, neck and ears. There we resumed our walk again. We walked from Centerfield to Axtel about 10 miles. We stopped at the store there and bought a loaf of bread and a can of beans. This was our brekfast. We then caught a ride from Axtel to Richfield. We caught a ride from Richfield to Junction. We walked from Junction to Circleville and caught a ride from there to Panguitch. We saw 2 deer on the way and much beautiful scenery. We passed Bruce Canyon and when were about to Alton the guy we were riding with ran out of gas. He went to town and got some. Then we went about 5 miles farther with him and he turned off our course. We were 5 miles from nowhere. But luck was with us for we caught a ride to the next town and were walking along looking for a place to sleep when we got a ride to the next town, which was Orderville. We walked out of town aways and built us a fire and tried to go to sleep. We slept about 2 hours. Tuesday June 2nd. We left Orderville at 5 A.M. walked to the next town which was Mt. Carmel. We bought some bread and beans for breakfast. We walked from Mt. Carmel to a construction camp where we tried to get a job. The boss said nothing doing. He was going to lay some men off. We went back to where the roads forked and waited till we got a ride. We rode through Zion National Park on the side of a car. The scenery was sure beautiful. This guy we rode with was only going to about the middle of the parkj. We waited a while and caught a ride with a guy in a gas truck who took us to Zion Forks. We were going to St. George but changed our minds. We caught a ride to Cedar City. We bought some stale cakes. This was our supper. We caught a ride to Paragonah. There we thought we were going to stop for the night. A very nice man and his wife gave us some cake and told us that we could sleep in an old house across the road from their service station. We went in and made a fire in the fireplace and we were almost asleep when the man from the service station came and woke us up and told us that he had a ride to Beaver for us. We reached Beaver about 11 o'clock. Looked for a bed and couldn't find one so we went and propositioned a man at a service station to let us have a cabin. He let us have one for 69 cents. We ran into a kid that had left Salt Lake today. He didn't have a coat, hat or any money, so we let him sleep with us. Wednesday June 3rd. We got up about 9 o'clock, went to a restaurant and got some hot cakes. We then started on the road. We got a ride in a milk truck and while we were riding along we say Eve and Perk, so we got off and talked about the old town. Then we walked about five miles and got a ride in a truck. The truck was going to Logan and the driver told us there was a lot of work up there so we decided to go to Logan. We reached there about 4 o'clock the next morning. Thursday June 4th. We walked out of Logan headed for Logan Canyon. We stopped to wash and clean up. Then we got a ride up the canyon and when we got there we asked the boss for a job. He said nothing doing as usual. We caught a ride from Logan to Salt Lake in another truck our old standby. We walked up to Joe Vincents and got something to eat. Then we went up to Conover's and ate again. We then went up to Williamsons and talked to her for a while. The we started back to town. When we reached town we had walked about 40 blocks. We caught a ride to P.G. (Pleasant Grove) and we got a lot of rides between Salt Lake and Spanish Fork. When we reached S. F. we bought some stale cakes and started walking. When we got almost to Salem our feet were so sore we couln't go on so we parked for the night. Friday June 5th..." And here the little journal ends. There are two penny postcards that Frank sent Helen while on the trip. The first dated May 29, 1939 Mount Pleasant, Utah Dear Helen, Foot sore and tired we reached here about seven o'clock Friday. We will be moving on in a day or so, so don't answer this. I have been thinking about you all day when I have been walking along. As there is no more room I will close with love, Frank. The next card is dated June 1, 1931 Glendale, Utah Dear Helen, I am still thinking of you even though I am 350 miles away from home. This hobo life is sure monotness and the meals sure are few and far between. Last night we slept in a hay stack in Centerfield. I almost froze to death. I wish these cards were larger. Love, Frank

3 of the Taylors

Steve wasn't able to attend Jon and Wendee's wedding, but Tom and Kathy made it, so here is a picture of the three of us. Also a picture of Tom and some of my children, and Kathy and I and her girls.

Jon and Wendee

On Tuesday, May 27 2008, we had the marvelous privilege of seeing Jon and Wendee married in the Bountiful, Utah temple. They were both ecstatic, and so were we all. We had a wonderful day of celebration, and are so happy to have Wendee in our family. For the time being, they have Alyssa living with them in North Ogden, and Jon is looking for a job. He was working for UPS in Gilbert, and they approved a transfer for him, but UPS here hasn't found a place for him yet. We're praying that all this will work out, and we know that it eventually will.

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

In October we had a terrific celebration for our 50th wedding anniversary. We stretched it out over three days, and it was so much fun. We went to Midway to Kathy and Chas' cabin the first night for dinner and a flashlight hike. Then breakfast and swimming the next morning. For dinner, we went to Heaps of Pizza in Provo, where Charles and I ate as students. Heaps was truly a dump 50 years ago, but had great pizza, so it has survived and improved, as we have. We then had a walking tour of BYU and showed the family important places in our dating history, such as the place of the first kiss. Next day, we had a reception at the Social Center here at Woodbridge, and friends and family joined to help us celebrate. Wow! What a great weekend! Our family really pitched in to make a memorable occasion.

Learning!

You all probably already know this, but I just learned last week that if I bring the cursor over the picture it becomes a hand, and with a click the picture is enlarged. I'm so excited about it, I go and click all the time. The picture of the monument at the Eureka cemetery however doesn't do that.
In September at Megan and Ed's wedding Jeanette took this picture which she titled the 4 Princesses. The girls are from left to right, Lydia Hall, Helen Felt, MyKel Hall, and Bailey Hall. Lydia and Bailey belong to James and Angie, Helen to Chas and Kathy and MyKel to Jared and Kriss. Wasn't that a wonderful time with all the family to celebrate such a marvelous occasion!

Frank and Helen's ancestors

Helen's mother's name was Laura Andreason. She was the daughter of Ole Andreason and Anna Anderson. Laura was born in Christinia, Oslo, Norway on October 26, 1884. She came to Utah at the age of six with her mother, father and five brothers and sisters. Her father Thomas Edward Chatwin was born in Santaquin, Utah on the 27th of September, 1882. His father was William Chatwin and his mother Irene Carter. Frank, who is really Charles Frank, was named after his father and his mother's father. Charles Frank's father was Frank Taylor, the son of Frank Melvin Taylor and Rebecca Burgess. Frank Taylor was born on February 15, 1880 in Silver Reef, Utah. Charles Frank's mother was Rosa Henrietta Hanks, the daughter of Charles Hanks and Auxelena Hermann. She was born on May 7, 1882 in Challis, Idaho. Helen's parents Laura and Tom met in Santaquin and were married in Nephi. They lived in Mammoth and Santaquin. Frank's parents Rosa and Frank met in Eureka and were married in Salt Lake City. They lived in Eureka, though Charles Frank was born in Salem at his grandparents home. Frank lived in Eureka and Helen over the mountain in Mammoth. They fell in love in junior high...Helen was 12 and Frank 14. They were married in Salt Lake City on April 22, 1936 and lived in Eureka, Utah, Winnemucca, Nevada and Portland, Oregon before settling in Salt Lake City about 1941.

Frank and Helen's kids

One day mother told me that she and dad had been talking and they were so happy that their children loved each other. So true! We do love each other and this will be a way to enhance that love. We know that Kathy just turned 60 and her family had a great surprise party for her. We need all the happy surprises possible when we reach those amazing age milestones. Tom called me last week saying he was driving to Utah to work on the cabin. Later he called looking for dress shoes since he had forgotten his. Last I talked to him was to direct him to Chas' and Kathy's since Chas had the right size feet. Hope Tom isn't buried in the snow by the cabin! Then I believe Steve and Marci are about to move into the manoir. That is a wonderful accomplishment. So with this new communication tool we will know more about each other, and about the descendants of Frank and Helen. It will make them, Frank and Helen, and their descendants, so happy. Some happy news from the Halls is that Jon and Wendee will be marrying on the 27th of May. We're so glad to have Wendee in our family. Also on the plus side, Charles has had 2 of the 6 (or so) chemo treatments for his leukemia/lymphoma and he has had a few days this time of feeling somewhat well. He has 3 days of treatment monthly, and for 10-15 days after the side effects are yucky. But he's a fighter and so he will keep trying to get better.

To One and All

This will be a way for us to communicate and keep close as a family. We want to see pictures of you and yours, and share memories of our fantastic ancestors! Love you all!

Grandma Tell Me Your Memories

Helen wrote, " I, Helen Chatwin, was born on Friday, 2 A.M. October 6th, 1916. I was born in Mammoth, Utah, in my parents' pretty bedroom. Doctor Steele Bailey delivered me. Of course my father, the Dr. and the nurse were there. My mother and father were so happy with this 8 lb. baby girl, they awakened my seven year old sister to share in their joy. She puckered up and cried and said, "All I ever wanted was a big teddy bear with eyes that "lit" up!"
